Artist's Comments

This was a back cover illustration for one of my Akiko comics way back in 1998. As you can see, even then I was under the spell of Hayao Miyazaki.

Anyone who has seen Totoro will recall the rainy night at the bus stop just before the "neko basu" arrives. I decided to put my characters, Akiko and Poog, into the scene as a tribute to the film and to Miyazaki's influence on my work.

Redeem me into childhood,
Show me myself without the shell,
Like the advent of May,
I'll be there when you say,
Time to never hold our love...
