Eye Studies by markcrilley Eye Studies by markcrilley
I did these studies of eyes back in college when trying to improve my understanding of human anatomy. It's interesting, isn't it, the degree to which you can read the emotion of each face in the eyes alone.

I can't help but see Jeremy Clarkson in these expressions, especially the top left.
Awesome stuff.

These are the emotions I see in them:
Top left: I'm intrigued and interested in what your saying. Please keep going.
Top right: I sympathize with you. I'm really sorry for you.
Bottom left: You really believe that? Are you crazy?
Bottom right: You are the vilest creature I've ever encountered.

OH MY GEEZUMS I HAD NO IDEA YOU HAD A DEVIANTART. (I've watched your videos for so many years and have been on dA for like four...how did I miss this?)

I had just liked your Facebook page and was scrolling down to see your posts and I saw this. :) Beautiful as always. You can definitely see the different expressions through the eyes -really nicely done. :)

Happy New Year!

The best part is how studies like these work to improve on other drawing styles such as manga :D

Did you use photo references/real people to draw them? Or were they done out of memory?

mark this is wonderful! a while ago (a week or two) i mostly focused on the eyebrow more than the eye for emotion but the eyes and how they wrinkle around the actual eye lid is amazing.

It IS truly interesting how you can see such emotion in the eyes, alone. But it can be really difficult, and defiantly something I need to work on. :

No wonder they say "Eyes are the windows of our soul".
As far as i understand everything is within the muscles, wrincles and such which make the eyes of a person unique.
But i'm still a beginner, trying to find a way to understand how to draw eyes better.
